CARE PHILOSOPHY

The most important part of being evaluated by an allergist is to find out if you have an allergy, and then determining what substances are causing your symptoms. If you do have an allergy, this is discussed, and a treatment plan made. From the time a patient first calls the office to make an appointment, until their treatment is completed, we treat you with warmth and understanding. We welcome you to our office.

What is ALLERGY SCRATCH TESTING?

 What To Expect:

We use a very simple method to test for allergies. A tiny plastic "toothpick" is used to scratch your forearm. In that way, a small drop of many foods, or substances from the air can be checked. We usually have results within 15-20 minutes. Your arms may get itchy, but this usually doesn't last very long.

Before the Test:

Your arm is wiped with alcohol, and then some dots are made with a pen(painless).

After the Test:

Once the test is over, we wipe your arm with a towel to remove the drops and pen marks. We discuss the results with you, and answer all of your questions. A report can then be sent to your regular doctor.

ALLERGY SHOTS

What To Expect:

Allergy shots are an effective and safe treatment for people who suffer from a variety of allergic diseases, including allergic rhinitis (hay fever), asthma and insect stings. When successful, people will have a significant decrease in symptoms, and therefore require less additional medication.

The treatment, also known as immunotherapy, works by injecting increasingly larger amounts of the very substances to which you are allergic. In this way, the body develops immunity to them. The treatment is divided into two parts: Initial Therapy when the doses are built up (usually weekly), and Maintenance Therapy, which is like a booster shot (usually every few weeks).

Allergy shots should be continued for several years to be effective. They have been available for over 100 years. The treatment has been continuously improved and refined. Performed by a trained and experienced physician, allergy shots are very safe.
